HIV/AIDS Prevention

“Youth against AIDS” project was implemented in Yerevan and three regions of Armenia with the support of Andorra Red Cross in 2011-2012. Peer to peer method sessions for schoolchildren were organized in the framework of the project, as well as public events, such as concerts, film watching, etc.

The start of the “SMS information helpline” project has increased the levels of public awareness in terms of HIV/AIDS prevention in RA. The project has been initiated in cooperation with the Peace Corps Armenia and supported by Viva Cell-MTS and Orange Armenia mobile operators. The subscribers of Orange Armenia and Viva Cell-MTS have the opportunity to send anonymously questions concerning HIV/AIDS to the 6428 short number (1 SMS costs 0 AMD) and receive brief and accurate responses to them provided by the trained young volunteers within 24 hours. About 27.000 questions were sent within the first month of the project implementation. A significant achievement for the project was receiving the award, in the category Bridging the Digital Divide – Connecting People through Technology, established by the Youth Commission of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies announced every two years.
