NK Crisis: In autumn 2023, Armenia experienced a massive influx of individuals following the escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) conflict starting on 19 September. According to the Government of Armenia, over 100.000 people arrived in Armenia at the end of September 2023 to seek support for the settlement in their new home. Those displaced to Armenia have left behind their homes, valuables, livelihoods, essentially most of what constituted their material possessions.
Ramela Mkrtchyan was born and raised in Ivanyan village, located in Askeran region of Nagorno-Karabakh. She lived with her family in her private house. Ramela worked as an assistant cook in the Military Hospital, preparing and serving food for soldiers, meantime her husband Arkady was engaged in gardening and livestock breeding activities. Together, they also ran a small grocery shop where their son sold the produce from their garden. Their life was deeply rooted in their community, centered around hard work, family, and the comfort of their home.

Lusine, a young woman forced to leave her home due to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, faced an uncertain future. She was displaced twice: First with her family from Shushi to Stepanakert in 2020, and then again in September 2023, when her young family and newborn child were among the 120,000 people who fled to Armenia.
