Leadership Meeting of National Societies in Almaty, Kazakhstan

On 16-17 May, in Kazakhstan, Almaty, Leadership Meeting of Eastern European, Baltic, Southern Caucasus and Central Asian National Societies took place, where Armenian Red Cross Society delegation participated as well. Francesco Rocca, Vice President, IFRC, Simon Missiri, Regional Director, IFRC, Martin Schueepp, Deputy Regional Director (GVA), ICRC, and other high level officials attended the event. 

On 16-17 May, in Kazakhstan, Almaty, Leadership Meeting of Eastern European, Baltic, Southern Caucasus and Central Asian National Societies took place, where Armenian Red Cross Society delegation participated as well. Francesco Rocca, Vice President, IFRC, Simon Missiri, Regional Director, IFRC, Martin Schueepp, Deputy Regional Director (GVA), ICRC, and other high level officials attended the event.

The leaders of National Societies, gathered by the invitation of IFRC and Kazhakh Red Crescent to discuss Changing humanitarian landscape in Europe, new trends long term vision. The National Societies presented their vision related to humanitarian issues in their respective countries and Movement role in tackling those issues.

Dr. Anna Yeghiazaryan, Secretary General of Armenian Red Cross Society, presented in her speech the humanitarian situation in the Region, those challenges, that face Armenia in this regard, and what type of activites implements the National Society, particularly to respond the issues related with Syrian Armenians influx, as well as in the direction of Movement Contingency Planning development. This is the first attempt of this kind of joint Respond process, and further it can be applied in other contexts as well.

“I’d like to emphasize the huge rope of ICRC and IFRC, as well as partner National Societies, who have their input in Armenian Red Cross Society development process and efficiently support the activities of our National Society. ARCS reaches its goals due to the support and cooperation of Movement components and implements it mission providing the beneficiaries with qualified services, and we are very grateful for that,” Dr. Anna Yeghiazaryan mentioned.

The leaders of National Societies discussed also Movement component coordination, Resource Mobilization Capacity Building, Communications issues, Preparations for General Assembly and Council of Delegates, Red Cross Forum, European Regional Conference 2018, and other questions common for the countries of the Region.
